What's the Future Ever Done for Me?

Pretty Sharp in Parkdale

It’s comforting to know that some things don’t change.

The sharpening truck still makes its way through the streets of Parkdale with his tell-tale ringing bell.

He sharpened the blade on my lawn mower today.

  1. I remember seeing a man walk down Dunn Avenue pulling the two wheeled wooden cart and ringing his bell. He sharpened things. Now by truck. wonderful. thank you.

Yes it is Greg! A blade sharpener roams the streets of Cobourg where I live too, ringing his bell. I think it’s great.

Seeing this truck reminds me of being quite young in early 60s Etobicoke – every now and then you’d see a guy walking up the street, pulling his sharpening contraption on wheels, rhythmically ringing a bell as he walked along. Good to see someone’s still making a living performing this kind of service, although one has to wonder, in this age of automation and robotics, how much longer it will be viable.
