What's the Future Ever Done for Me?

Lost Parkdale/Queen Street Subway

pictures-r-897Looking east along queen from the corner of Noble circa 1952, towards the Queen Street Subway, completed in 1898 at a cost of $20,000.00. I’m interested in the Art Moderne building on the left.

The Gladstone Hotel is in the distance as well as the old train station.

The Something Seltzer Company?

$20,000.00 at the turn of the century would equal approx. $415,000.00 today.

Reader 7moremiles says it’s the Emerson Drug Company, makers of Bromo Seltzer and he’s right! Thanks for the tip.

Could it be the Emerson Drug Co. (“Bromo Seltzer”) 1266 Queen St.W.

The bottle in the picture above appears to be the exact bottle I bought off Ebay in March 2015… It has the exact same blemishes, the mark below C in “CO.” is just one of the more notable ones… Unless it was a defect in the mold?

On a related note, I live on the property that the Bromo Seltzer building use to stand on, it has the same address by the way… And even more mind blowing, I was recently in Baltimore, MD and visited the Bromo Seltzer Tower, it’s currently used as an artist space… And guess what’s in the basement at 1266 Queen Street West, Toronto? An Artist Space! The folks in Baltimore were blown away by this similarity!

    • The bottle in the post probably came from Ebay, so there’s a good chance they are one and the same.
      Thanks for the story.
