What's the Future Ever Done for Me?

Queen and Dufferin/Then and Now Update

After nearly 115 years Dufferin Street has be re connected with itself north of Queen..
When the original subway was built in 1897, Dufferin was severed at Queen to accommodate the underpass. The renovations were finished in November of 20109 and traffic was able to cross Queen and move north. The cost of this new tunnel was $40,000,000. The original cost of the subway in 1897 was $20,000.00.

And no guard rails for the pillars in the centre… the same feature that killed Princess Diana 15 years ago? Seriously, Toronto?

Stunning comparison, though. I’ve only driven past the new tunnel once or twice, but I was nicely familiar with the old Peel deke. I still can’t get over the new look. Always hoped they’d reconnect Dufferin with Dufferin but never really thought they would. A more direct connection to Lake Shore would be a nice follow-up.
